(continued from Got Pasteurized Milk? part 2)
The Law
Each state regulates the sale of raw milk within the state, and some states allow it to be sold. This means that in some states dairy operations may sell it to local retail food stores, or to consumers directly from the farm or at agricultural fairs or other community events, depending on the state law.”Now that we have outlined reasons to eschew raw milk, I would state my position. Pastueization is good for society, bad for the individual. Having a safe, steady and cheap food supply requires maintaining standards of hygeine. Not everyone can get raw milk right now and I don’t know if we could develop mass prodcution of pasture-fed, raw milk from ethically treated animals. There is no easy answer when it comes to food and society. But, if you are fortunate enough to live in a place where raw milk is available, I encourage you to investigate the option.
